Celebrating 23 Years of WBC Counseling
This August, WBC Counseling celebrates its 23rd Anniversary, marking more than two decades of providing compassionate, client-centered mental health care throughout Michigan. Our 23rd Anniversary is more than a milestone, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, celebrate the people who made it possible, and look ahead to the future with excitement and purpose.
Since opening our doors in 2003, our mission has remained the same: helping individuals and families put the pieces back together through quality counseling services, meaningful relationships, and personalized care.
Where It All Began
WBC Counseling began in 2003 as White Behavioral Consultants, founded by Dr. Michele White with a vision to serve individuals living with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Shortly after opening, Dr. White began providing home therapy services throughout the community, making mental health care more accessible for those who needed it most.
By 2004, the company had opened its first office in Westland, Michigan, and in 2005, welcomed its very first employee. These early years laid the foundation for the compassionate, relationship-focused care that continues to define WBC Counseling today.
Building A Strong Foundation
As demand for services continued to grow, so did our team.
Between 2008 and 2012, WBC Counseling hired its first Operations Manager and welcomed its first therapist. In 2012, the company established its headquarters in Ann Arbor, creating a permanent home for continued growth and expanded services.
Each new addition helped strengthen our ability to support clients with professionalism, empathy, and excellence.
Expanding Our Reach
From 2015 through 2020, WBC Counseling experienced tremendous growth.
We opened our first Flint office in 2015 and, in 2019, expanded beyond our original focus on traumatic brain injury services to provide counseling for a wider variety of mental health concerns.
A significant milestone came in 2020 when White Behavioral Consultants officially became WBC Counseling, reflecting the broader range of services we now provide while maintaining our commitment to specialized TBI care.
During that same year, we expanded once again by opening offices in Southfield and Livonia, making it easier for more Michigan residents to access high-quality mental health care.
Growing Through Excellence
The years 2021 and 2022 brought exciting accomplishments that strengthened both our organization and the services we provide.
By 2021, WBC Counseling had grown to a team of 11 therapists and six office staff members. We also created internal training programs and policies through AccreditationNow to continue providing consistent, high-quality care.
One of our proudest achievements came in 2022 when WBC Counseling earned a prestigious three-year CARF Accreditation, recognizing our commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
That same year, we partnered with Country Creek Pediatrics to offer on-site counseling services for children, expanding access to mental health care for young clients and their families.
Adapting to Meet Community Needs
Throughout 2023, WBC Counseling continued to evolve alongside the needs of our community.
We increased in-person, evening, and weekend appointment availability, making therapy more accessible for busy individuals and families. We also expanded services for Workers’ Compensation clients and began the process of becoming a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE).
Although we closed our Flint office during this time, our commitment to serving clients across Michigan remained stronger than ever.
Investing In The Future
During 2024, WBC Counseling focused on strengthening our organization from the inside out.
We revised our internship program to better prepare future mental health professionals, relocated our corporate office, and implemented a comprehensive marketing and social media strategy to better connect with our community.
We also made the difficult decision to close our Southfield and Auburn Hills offices, allowing us to focus our resources where they could have the greatest impact.
Conitnuing To Grow
Our journey continued in 2025 with another exciting chapter.
WBC Counseling proudly opened a new office in Dearborn, allowing us to serve even more individuals and families throughout Southeast Michigan. We also experienced continued growth in our specialized TBI services and restarted our monthly newsletters to keep clients, referral partners, and community members informed about resources, events, and mental health education.
These accomplishments reflect our commitment to growing intentionally while staying true to our mission.
Thank You For 23 Incredible Years
As we celebrate WBC Counseling’s 23rd Anniversary, we are filled with gratitude for every client, family member, referral partner, community organization, and team member who has been part of our story.
For 23 years, WBC Counseling has remained dedicated to helping people heal, grow, and move forward through compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. While our offices, services, and team have evolved over the years, our purpose has never changed.
One of our proudest achievements came in 2022 when WBC Counseling earned a prestigious three-year CARF Accreditation, recognizing our commitment to excellence, quality care, and continuous improvement. In 2026, we were honored to receive another three-year CARF Accreditation, reaffirming our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of service and continuing to provide exceptional care to the individuals and families we serve.
We are excited to continue serving Michigan communities for many years to come, building meaningful relationships, expanding access to care, and helping even more people discover hope and healing.
Thank you for being part of our journey; and here’s to the next chapter of WBC Counseling. Happy 23rd Anniversary! WBC Counseling 23rd Anniversary
